PETER BROOK (97) / ENGLISH THEATRE AND FILM DIRECTOR, BASED IN FRANCE. STARTED DIRECTING IN LONDON AT 18 (DR FAUSTUS BY CHRISTOPHER MARLOWE). AS DIRECTOR OF PRODUCTIONS AT THE ROYAL OPERA HOUSE IN LONDON (1947-1950) CONTROVERSIALLY STAGED RICHARD STRAUSS'S SALOME (SETS BY SALVADOR DALI), ALSO GIACOMO PUCCINI'S LA BOHÈME. WITH MICHELINE ROZAN CO-FOUNDED THE INTERNATIONAL CENTRE FOR THEATRE RESEARCH IN 1970, A GROUP OF ACTORS, DANCERS AND MUSICIANS. BROOK WAS STRONGLY INFLUENCED BY JOAN LITTLEWOOD AND ANTONIN ARTAUD AND HIS THEATRE OF CRUELTY AND INSPIRED BY JERZY GROTOWSKI, BERTOLT BRECHT. COLLABORATED WITH PAUL SCOFIELD, GLENDA JACKSON, WILLIAM GOLDING, TED HUGHES. WITH JEAN-CLAUDE CARRIÈRE STAGED A NINE-HOUR VERSION OF THE MAHABHARATA (1985) AND A FIVE-HOUR FILM VERSION (1989).

MANNY CHARLTON (80) / BRITISH MUSICIAN, ROCK GUITARIST, PRODUCER AND VOCALIST. WITH DAN McCAFFERTY, PETE AGNEW, DARRELL SWEET A FOUNDING MEMBER OF THE LEGENDARY SCOTTISH HARD ROCK / HEAVY METAL BAND NAZARETH WITH WHOM HE PLAYED 1968- 1990. THEIR SONG "RAZAMANAZ" WAS COVERED BY THE US PUNK BANDS THE MEATMEN AND SUPERSUCKERS. NAZARETH WROTE MANY BRILLIANT SONGS LIKE "HAIR OF THE DOG", "PLEASE DON'T JUDAS ME", "TELEGRAM". NAZARETH OFTEN COVERED OTHER PERFORMERS LIKE WOODY GUTHRIE, BOB DYLAN, LEON RUSSELL, JONI MITCHELL, RANDY NEWMAN, FRANK ZAPPA, THE EVERLY BROTHERS, THE BYRDS, THE BEACH BOYS, TOMORROW, JOE TEX OR LITTLE FEAT'S LOWELL GEORGE. SOME OF THEIR INTERPRETATIONS WERE EQUAL, SOME BETTER THAN THE ORIGINALS, THINK "THIS FLIGHT TONIGHT", "LOVE HURTS", "MY WHITE BICYCLE". DEEP PURPLE'S ROGER GLOVER PRODUCED THREE NAZARETH'S ALBUMS, THEN MANNY CHARLTON STARTED PRODUCING BEGINNING WITH HAIR OF THE DOG, WHICH BECAME THEIR MOST POPULAR AND BEST SELLING RELEASE (OVER TWO MILLION COPIES). MANNY CHARLTON PRODUCED MANY BANDS AND ALBUMS INCLUDING PUNK ROCK JINGO De LUNCH AND THEIR B.Y.E. IN 1992 AND GUNS N ROSES (APPETITE FOR DESTRUCTION).

MARK ASTRONAUT ( ) / BORN MARK WILKINS, BRITISH PUNK POET, LYRICIST AND SINGER, LEADER OF THE ASTRONAUTS, ACTIVE SINCE THE LATE 1970s. WILKINS IS FROM WELWYN GARDEN CITY, FOUNDED IN THE 1920s, WHICH IS A GARDEN CITY, JUST LIKE NOWA HUTA IN POLAND. RECENTLY, THE ASTRONAUTS' ALBUM IN DEFENCE OF COMPASSION (ACID STINGS, 1989) HAS BEEN RE-RELEASED BY RETRO-ACTIVE UK FOR THE FIRST TIME ON CD WITH RARE BONUS TRACKS FROM 1988. MARK WILKINS WROTE POLITICAL LYRICS AND THE ASTRONAUTS HAD FOLK AND PSYCHEDELIC INFLUENCES (SOMETIMES NIK TURNER FROM HAWKWIND PLAYED SAXOPHONE). THEIR OTHER RECORDINGS INCLUDE PETER PAN HITS THE SUBURBS (1981), ONLY FOOLS & OPTIMISTS (1982), IT'S ALL DONE BY MIRRORS (1983), SOON (1986), THE SEEDY SIDE OF (1987), UPFRONT AND SIDEWAYS (1992), THE ASTRONAUTS (1992), YOU'RE ALL WEIRD (1999), ONE WAY / SCHWERPUNKT (A SPLIT WITH THE DESTRUCTORS, 2012), IT'S GOT A GARDEN (2019), WHEN WE WERE OTTERS (2022). MARK ASTRONAUT ALSO PLAYED WITH RESTRICTED HOURS AND THE OTTERS. HE LIKED TO BE CALLED "DAVE ASTRONAUT".

BARBARA THOMPSON (77) / ENGLISH JAZZ MUSICIAN, COMPOSER AND BANDLEADER. PLAYED TENOR, ALTO AND SOPRANO SAXOPHONES AND FLUTE / ALTO FLUTE. BORN IN OXFORD, STUDIED SAXOPHONE AND CLASSICAL COMPOSITION AT THE ROYAL COLLEGE OF MUSIC. MARRIED TO JAZZ AND ROCK DRUMMER JON HISEMAN 1967-2018, THE YEAR OF HIS DEATH. IN THE MID-1960s JOINED NEIL ARDLEY AND HIS ALL-STAR NEW JAZZ ORCHESTRA (NJO - HARRY BECKETT, JACK BRUCE, MIKE GIBBS, PAUL RUTHERFORD, TREVOR WATTS AND OTHERS), WHERE SHE MET HISEMAN. THOMPSON OCCASIONALLY PLAYED AND RECORDED WITH HIS BAND COLOSSEUM, BECOMING PERMANENT MEMBER WHEN DICK HECKSTALL-SMITH DIED IN 2004. THOMPSON'S FIRST RECORDING HOWEVER, WAS WITH THE ALL-FEMALE BAND THE SHE TRINITY. IN THE 1970s JOINED STAR-STUDDED TEN-PIECE SUPERGROUP THE UNITED JAZZ + ROCK ENSEMBLE (CHARLIE MARIANO, KENNY WHEELER, ALBERT MANGELSDORFF, IAN CARR,VOLKER KRIEGEL, WOLFGANG DAUNER, ACK van ROOYEN, EBERHARD WEBER, JON HISEMAN), FOUNDED HER OWN GROUPS: JAZZ-ROCK PARAPHERNALIA AND LATIN JUBIABA. COMPOSED MODERN CLASSICAL MUSIC, WROTE FOR FILMS, TELEVISION AND THEATRE (INCLUDING WORK WITH ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER IN 1978). THOMPSON RECORDED WITH KEEF HARTLEY BAND, MANFRED MANN'S EARTH BAND, ROD ARGENT, KATE AND MIKE WESTBROOK. BARBARA THOMPSON - LIVE AT T HE BBC IS A 14 CD BOX SET CONTAINING 27 COMPLETE RADIO SHOWS 1969-1990. 25 YEARS AGO WAS DIAGNOSED WITH PARKINSON'S DISEASE BUT CONTINUED TO TOUR, RECORD AND COMPOSE.

PAUL RYDER (58) / ENGLISH MUSICIAN, ELECTRIC BASSIST, KEYBOARDIST, ACTOR AND DJ, WITH HIS BROTHER, SINGER SHAUN RYDER, FOUNDING MEMBER OF THE MADCHESTER BAND HAPPY MONDAYS (SALFORD / MANCHESTER, 1980), . HAPPY MONDAYS WERE A BRIDGE BETWEEN THE 1980s MANCHESTER INDIE ROCK AND THE LATER UK RAVE SCENE, COMBINING FUNK, HOUSE AND NEO-PSYCHEDELIA. THEIR THIRD STUDIO ALBUM FROM 1990 PILLS 'N' THRILLS AND BELLYACHES SOLD OVER 350 000 COPIES IN THE UK. PAUL RYDER APPEARED IN THE FILMS 24 HOUR PARTY PEOPLE, THE GHOSTS OF OXFORD STREET, LOSING IT. HE FORMED HIS OWN BAND BIG ARM WHO MADE AN ALBUM RADIATOR IN 2008.

MICHAEL HENDERSON (71) / AMERICAN BASS GUITARIST AND VOCALIST. PLAYED JAZZ, FUSION, R&B, FUNK, SOUL, POP. BEST KNOWN FOR HIS LONGTIME COLLABORATION WITH MILES DAVIS, WITH WHOM HE MADE 12 ALBUMS, MOST WERE DOUBLE ALBUMS AND THE CELLAR DOOR SESSIONS 1970 HAS SIX DISCS.

BOB HEATHCOTE (58) / AMERICAN BASSIST WHO FOR A SHORT TIME PLAYED WITH THE HARDCORE PUNK / CROSSOVER BAND SUICIDAL TENDENCIES (MARCH 1988 - FEBRUARY 1989) RECORDING WITH THEM THE ALBUM HOW WILL I LAUGH TOMORROW WHEN I CAN'T EVEN SMILE TODAY (1988) AND LEFT THE BAND WHEN THE HOW WILL I LAUGH TOMORROW TOUR ENDED BUT APPEARS ON THE OCTOBER 1989 ALBUM CONTROLLED BY HATRED / FEEL LIKE SHIT... DÉJÀ VU, BUT ONLY ON "JUST ANOTHER LOVE SONG" AND ON TWO VERSIONS OF "HOW WILL I LAUGH TOMORROW" THOUGH UNCREDITED. HE WAS REPLACED BY ROBERT TRUJILLO. BOB HEATHCOTE DIED FROM INJURIES RESULTING FROM MOTORCYCLE ACCIDENT.

MO OSTIN (95) / BORN MORRIS MEYER OSTROFSKY WAS AN AMERICAN HALL OF FAME RECORD EXECUTIVE. WORKED FOR NORMAN GRANZ AT CLEF RECORDS THEN VERVE, SINCE 1960 HEADED FRANK SINATRA'S REPRISE RECORDS, WHICH IN 1963 MERGED WITH WARNER BROS. WORKED AT WARNER / REPRISE FOR 32 YEARS, FIRST SIGNING THE KINKS, IN 1967 JIMI HENDRIX. FOR TWO YEARS WAS THE CHAIRMAN OF RECORDING INDUSTRY ASSOCIATION OF AMERICA (RIAA). IN 2003 INDUCTED INTO THE ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME BY PAUL SIMON, NEIL YOUNG AND LORNE MICHAELS.
