MILLIE SMALL (72) / JAMAICAN BLUEBEAT, SKA, ROCKSTEADY AND REGGAE SINGER AND SONGWRITER. STARTED CAREER AT 12 WINNING A TALENT CONTEST. WORKED FOR COXSONE DODD AND HIS STUDIO ONE. IN 1963, WITH ERNEST RANGLIN PRODUCING, RECORDED HER GREATEST HIT "MY BOY LOLLIPOP" WHICH SOLD OVER SEVEN MILLION COPIES. IN 1964 SANG IN THE BEATLES TV SPECIAL AROUND THE BEATLES. THEN TOURED THE WORLD EXTENSIVELY, APPEARED ON TELEVISION, TRIED ACTING. IN 1970 MADE AN ALBUM FOR TROJAN RECORDS ENTITLED TIME WILL TELL WHICH INCLUDED HER ANTIRACIST POLITICAL PROTEST SONG "ENOCH POWER", THE ANSWER TO THE INFAMOUS RIVERS OF BLOOD SPEECH MADE BY UK MP ENOCH POWELL. MILLIE NEVER GOT ANY ROYALTIES FOR THE SINGLE "MY BOY LOLLIPOP" AND DESPITE ALL HER SUCCESS, AT SOME POINT SHE HAD TO LIVE IN A YOUTH HOSTEL WITH HER SMALL DAUGHTER.
